Jack Hill
Senior Urban Forester

Jack, another of our veterans and former Navy swabby, makes his living by looking for the details. And he doesn't miss many. "What about the doors?" This is what Jack exclaimed years ago at one construction meeting for Allen Parkway Village. It seems that Jack was so observant that he forgot we were there to talk about tree issues. Befudled by his exuberance, both architect and engineer banned him from all future construction meetings, particularly those dealing with doors!

Jack Hill is a practicing Urban Forester. The term 'practicing' is emphasized because Jack has been planning, designing and implementing successful methods for tree preservation for nearly 30 years. His designs for zero curb cuts and aeration have set the standard for those practices in many communities, having been used time and again by practitioners in the built environment. Jack's specifications for Tree Preservation Plan documentation have been duplicated and adopted into many a bid package. Leading quietly by example, he teaches and encourages others in the field of urban forestry. He wouldn't have it any other way.

Jack L. Hill received a B. S. in Forestry from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1974. He began his professional work with the City of Houston as Assistant City Forester in 1975 and remained until 1979. Between 1979 and 1981 he served as Production Manager for Stacy Environmental before joining Steve Clark and Associates, of Bethpage, TN. He served as the Houston Area Manager and Senior Consultant until heading east with the same firm. He became Manager of the Houston Office for Forestry Associates in 1992 and joined the staff of Burditt in 1996 as Senior Urban Forester.

He has participated in many award winning urban forest projects throughout the Southern and Eastern United States, including both the Texas Urban Forestry Award and National Arbor Day Project Award. He is past President and current board member of the Houston Area Urban Forestry Council, a charter member of the Texas International Society of Arboriculture, member of the Park People, Trees for Houston, Society of American Foresters, Texas Urban Forestry Council and the National Arbor Day Foundation. Jack currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Texas International Society of Arboriculture.
